    Jewell Horton, Office Manager

Jewell Horton is a Pender County native - born and raised here her entire life.  She has always had a passion for animals, especially horses.  Jewell started taking riding lessons when she was 5 and started her own business at the age of 10 to save up money and buy her first pony.  After 2 years of starting her business, she bought her first pony, in 1994.  She has over 20 years in the local horse industry and has shown Appaloosas & Miniatures all over the Country!  She started in the veterinary industry in 1997 and he been with it ever since.  She and her husband started Horton Farm in 1999 - and between the farm and the veterinary industry she has traveled all over the country doing animal relief work.  She and her co-workers started HEART in 2004.  HEART was a private rescue that carried medical supplies and food to animals impacted by disasters.  They traveled to Florida in 2004 after Hurricane Charlie and to Mississippi in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina.  Jewell felt that while those visits were short, due to obligations with work and the farm, the impact was real and were some of the most rewarding moments of her life.  She came to Rocky Point Animal Hospital shortly after opening in 2006 and has found her "second home".  "I have been in the industry for a long time and worked with a lot of veterinarians.  The standard of medicine performed here and the quality of care is second to none.  I can't see myself anywhere else" says Horton.  Jewell & her husband, Hugh, reside in Watha and share their home with their 3 cats, 3 dogs and her horse.  They also raise poultry and care for 9 other horses that reside on their farm.

    Jennifer Winter, Receptionist

Jennifer Winter has been a native of Pender County her entire life.  She was born in Wilmington, but raised in Rocky Point.  Jennifer has loved animals since she was a little girl and has always had cats and dogs as part of her “family”.  Jennifer was introduced to the veterinary field at the age of 16 while doing a clinical rotation through school.  She enjoyed working at the hospital and with the animals so much, that once she graduated she went back to work at that clinic as a technician.  She worked there for 3 years and then decided to explore other career opportunities.  However, despite several other endeavors, Jennifer realized that working in the veterinary industry was her passion.
